About South Landing Beach

South Landing is a beautiful and sheltered cove located on the southern side of Flamborough Head in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Surrounded by striking white chalk cliffs and clear blue waters, it is one of the most scenic spots along the Yorkshire coastline. Its combination of natural beauty, wildlife, and walking routes makes it a popular destination for families, walkers, and nature lovers.

Unlike the wide, open sands found at larger beaches, South Landing has a more intimate feel. The beach is made up of sand and pebbles, with rock pools exposed at low tide. These pools are ideal for exploring small marine creatures, making it a favourite place for children and curious visitors. The clear water and sheltered position also make it a popular location for kayaking and paddleboarding in calm conditions.

South Landing sits within the wider Flamborough Headland area, known for its dramatic coastal scenery. The surrounding cliffs are rich in wildlife, particularly during the seabird breeding season. Visitors may spot species such as puffins, gannets, and kittiwakes nesting along the chalk faces. The area forms part of a protected coastal landscape, valued for both its geological and ecological importance.

There is convenient parking at the top of the cove, with a well-maintained path leading down to the beach. A café and visitor facilities are usually available near the car park, particularly during the busier months. From South Landing, scenic cliff-top walking trails connect to other parts of Flamborough Head, offering breath taking views across the North Sea.

Are dogs allowed on South Landing Beach?

Dogs are allowed to be walked on South Landing beach and there are no restrictions at any time of year, however, the majority of the beach is pebbled so not best suited for dogs.
