Visiting Scarborough Castle
Scarborough Castle is open to visitors year-round, with varying opening hours depending on the season. As you arrive, you will head through a visitor centre where you will purchase your ticket. Once you have paid, you will be allowed into the castle grounds.
From the visitor centre, you will head up a cobbled hill, with the castle ruins on your right hand side and the exhibition centre to your left.
Inside the exhibition centre, you will have the opportunity to see some ancient artefacts which have been excavated from the grounds of Scarborough Castle.
Slightly beyond the exhibitions, you will find customer toilets, a coffee shed and an ice cream van so you can grab a refreshment for your walk around the grounds.
I would recommend you head round the boundary of the grounds to take in the fantastic views on offer over both North Bay and South Bay.
Along the way, you will find plenty of ruins to explore, which will give you a real feel of what life was like back in the 12th Century.
You will now have the chance to head up to the viewing platform, which offers spectacular views out to sea and across the town.
Once you’ve checked out the viewing platform, it’s time to head over to the castle ruins. There are steps and platforms available for you to reach the first floor of the castle.
